7 Science is exploring how cells and organisms reproduce, and the ways that offspring can carry and demonstrate different traits passed on from parent to offspring. We are starting out with the division of body cells - mitosis - and next week we will look at how meiosis is different, and how different genes are displayed - then we will use punnet squares, create some personalized monsters, and do some sponge bob genetics to get a handle on traits, genotypes and phenotypes.
8 Science did a nice job with their study of rocks and minerals. They just wrapped up that unit with a quiz on Thursday of last week. Next on our "plate" is tectonics, fault lines, earthquakes, mountain building and volcanic activity - there will be a lot to learn and we will have another edible food lab with our study of plate tectonics and types of faults.
7 Social Studies has begun the study of Judaism and is off to a great start. There was a lot of prior knowledge that we used to discuss the earliest part of the Hebrew history, and from there we will look further into their holy texts and books, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and also the more recent history - the Diaspora.
8 Social Studies is just finishing their study on Citizenship - we have been reviewing the Bill of Rights, the following 17 amendments, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens in our country. From here, we will be going to look at Washington's presidency and the precedent that he established by being the first to take the office as POTUS.
