6 Science is working on Inertia with a lab involving running, a ball and a target - we have to figure out when to release the ball in order for it to hit the target without altering speed or height prior to release. We will be having a quiz Tuesday (12/5) on Lessons 1-3, and I will provide a formula sheet for them to use to help them figure out different problems on the quiz. I have posted a study guide for them on Showbie to help them prepare.
7 Science has begun learning about the different characteristics and properties of matter. We will start looking at how changes in matter are either physical or chemical, and will also be creating some lovely ooblek next week to take a look at non-Newtonian matter. The class is slowly working towards solutions and mixtures, and we will have several hands on activities in the week ahead.
8 Science is already halfway through our first introductory unit looking at waves - the types and parts of waves, as well as the matter they flow through. From here, we will start to study sound waves and the parts of the ear, and then move on to light waves. I have posted a study guide in Showbie for the quiz on Tuesday (12/5).
7 Social Studies is almost finished with our study of Ancient India. We have looked at the changing culture and religious practices of the region, including Hinduism and Buddhism, and will be having a quiz late this week on the chapter. There will be a study guide in Showbie to help prepare the group.
8 Social Studies is learning about the 3 branches of government and the ways and means by which they check one another's power. We will also be looking at how a Bill becomes a Law, several questionable and "goofy" laws that have been created in our states, and also studying the Preamble (School House Rock has an excellent sing-a-long). We will wrap up our studies with the Bill of Rights, the many Amendments of our Constitution, and also take a look at what a citizenship test could look like.
A friendly reminder that all three groups will be taking part in the Hour of Code next week Wednesday to have some hands-on experience with coding and technology used to create many of the apps and programs that we use every day.
