Before I dive into our recent classroom happenings, I just want to say THANK YOU for making each day at Washington Caldwell a special and educational one. I am extremely thankful for the supportive staff and outgoing students that I work with, the ability to teach in a positive and safe educational environment, and the wonderful families that make up our bigger family here at Washington Caldwell. I am thankful for all of you and hope that you have a safe and relaxing break.
Back to Business!
6th and 8th Grade Science classes have been doing a great job conquering the concepts of Physics - from inertia, Newton's Laws, acceleration and location to fluids, pressure and gravity - we have been studying them all! We dropped some tennis balls while running to look at forward motion and gravity working together much like the early bombers of WWI, and will be diving into energy and work soon by constructing our amazing Waterwheels of Science!!!
7th Grade has begun digging into the environment through ecology and studying and creating different biomes found throughout the world, then creating food chains of the animals found within to look at energy flow and the niches of these biotic and abiotic organisms.
8th grade Social Studies looked into our rights and responsibilities and took the test that so many Americans have taken to become citizens - and thankfully, our 8th graders will remain in the country! We are currently studying the country under George Washington's presidency and some of the precedents that were set for the Nation to follow in the years since.
7th is studying the people and concepts surrounding the early civilizations of India - Buddhism, Jainism, and Brahmanism have been discussed and we are closing in on the development of society in China and Ancient Asia .
Again, just a friendly reminder that all grades are collecting items for their PTO raffle baskets - the 7th Graders have a theme of Hardcovers and Coffee / Cocoa - please send all items in by November 30th so that the baskets can be put together for the Winter Concert.
I wish all of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving with quality time with those you care about!
Have a wonderful break!!!
- Ms. Unrath
