To help keep them focused until break, little things like checking the homework calendar and asking to see their finished work go a long way. Or writing a lunch box note telling them they are doing a great job staying on top of their work means the world to them.
Little things that mean so much to adults mean just as much to our kids, even if they refuse to admit it. I have seen them smile to themselves when reading a note in their lunches or notebooks... it DOES HAPPEN!
There are also a lot of ways that you can show them how to spread that same sense of appreciation to others...
Our school is collecting non-recyclable plastic caps and lids to help children in need receive wheelchairs, there is a food drive in full swing, and a giving tree. There are also numerous other ways to help - ring a bell with your boy or girl scout troop, see if you can volunteer at the the Pabst and catch A Christmas Carol for FREE, or go and help out at a local animal shelter (you might make a new friend).
Or write a little note of your own to help bring a smile to troops overseas...
Put that energy to good use and bring a smile (or a wag of the tail) to those who could really use one!
Now - on to the good stuff - 6th and 8th grade are SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWLLLLLYYYYYY gaining speed on our physics material - expect a test after winter break on the first unit. 7th is splashing through waves - light and sound - as the year winds down. In social studies, 7th grade is beginning to study the regions and people of Asia after starting off with the Middle East. 8th grade is looking at the work and determination that comes with founding a nation - especially the government and order that comes with it.
