The 6th graders will be having a test on Monday, January 20th. There is a study guide on Edmodo that they have had access to since Tuesday afternoon. It will be covering Energy, Power, and Simple Machines (Unit 2, Lessons 1-3). We have been reviewing as we go, and it is their homework for the weekend to study. The next topic that we will cover will be electricity and magnetism!
7th Grade
In Social Studies, the 7th graders have been studying ancient Greece, its early forms of Government and the arts and literature that have helped to shape one of the greatest civilizations of all time. A special area of focus has been Greek culture - looking at how natural occurrences were explained through their mythology. The class has created their own creatures and is in the process of writing their own myths, which will be due next Friday.
Science has had the group learning about both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, how raw materials are turned into energy for use, and also the impact both the use and sourcing of resources has on the planet. There will be a quiz next week Thursday on main concepts and ideas for this Unit in Science.
8th Grade
In US History, the 8th grade has been learning about Westward Expansion, especially in the West and Southwest regions of America - through the Mexican American War, the Oregon Trail, and Missions system of California. The Donner Party especially captured their interest while discussing the lure of land and gold in the West. In the next quarter, we will begin studying the causes of the Civil War and the disunion of the Nation in the 1800s.
Science has been shocking - we are looking at electricity, completing circuits and burning out light bulbs in the name of circuitry and conductors! The class had a lab today that had them look at the positive and negative aspects of different types of circuits - parallel and series. Next we will begin to look at magnetism, and how it is used in the world around us. There will be a test on Electricity and Magnetism next week Friday.
