Seventh grade science is halfway through their study of matter and substances. I have posted a review for them in Showbie. Please make sure they are using that to begin studying. Next we will be looking at atoms, molecules, mixtures and substances. We will also be looking at the various states of matter and how energy is an important factor in changes between the states. The quiz that correlates with the review that has been posted is scheduled for the week of October 8.
Eighth grade science is wrapping up their study of natural selection and evolution. Beginning next week we will start our study of Earth science focusing primarily on the crust and the different levels beneath it including the mantle and the core. From there we will begin to look at different land forms that are created through deposition and erosion. They have done a wonderful job focusing on Darwin and the different theories that accompany evolution.
Seventh grade social studies is about halfway through our study of ancient Mesopotamia. We will be creating cuneiform tablets either Monday or Tuesday of the week of October 1. There will also be a quiz review in Showbie to help study for our quiz about Mesopotamia. This quiz will take place either October 5 or October 8.
Eighth grade has been doing an excellent job studying the different early explorers from Spain, Portugal and other parts of Europe that made their way westward to discover parts of North and South America. We have also been looking at the impact that these Europeans had on the indigenous cultures. Early next week we will be having a Socratic circle focusing on the African slave trade and the impact that it had on both the civilizations of Africa as well as the colonies of North and South America. Students will need to prepare several questions to help aid in a discussion that we will have focusing on the material that we read. They will have a quiz on this chapter the week of October 8. A review in Showbie will be posted next week.
