7 Science is beginning to study the human body, which will serve as a path into Medical Detectives for Project Lead the Way. We are starting with the skeletal and muscle systems, then on into systems such as the digestive, endocrine, reproductive and circulatory. The group is excited to dissect frogs and sheep brains, so there will be a lot of hands on learning that twill take place in the weeks ahead!
8 Science is going to looking into changes that take place over time - specifically with different animal and plant species. They will learn about different theories surrounding evolution, what can cause adaptations to arise, and how camouflage can help a species survive predation. We will look at how diseases can mutate and change over time - which will also serve as a nice introduction into Medical Detectives with PLTW.
7 Social Studies is studying the history of the Hebrew faith and will be checking out the different texts that are studied. We will also look at the holidays and practices of the group, and will end up having a quiz this week Friday to wrap up and demonstrate their understanding of the Jewish culture and religion.
8 Social Studies is wrapping up their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase with Lewis and Clark. From here, we will check out some of the other notable explorers (Zebulon Pike) and look further into the man who owned Monticello. The class will also discuss the War of 1812 and the impact that it had on America.
