7 Science has cracked open their textbooks to begin their study of Cells. We are currently investigating the theory behind cells, and will branch out into cell structure and function in the days ahead. We will also be having a project due on September 18th - a cell model that can either be edible or non-edible with a key of the parts of a cell and their functions. It should be a delicious and fun project. Don't worry, I am sending home a project sheet to help guide them, and we will spend time brainstorming in class, too. ( I also set it up so that there are 2 weekends for you to run to the store if you need to do so).
8 Science is starting off the year by studying the spheres of the earth and how they exchange energy and matter through different interactions. We will then be diving deeper into the earth, looking at its layers, movements, and land forms. We will also end up doing some delicious labs along the way... food makes earth science labs fun and fascinating.
7 World History is looking at the early beginnings of culture and how geography can impact a group of people. Once we begin with civilizations, the starting point will be river cultures along the Tigris and Euphrates, like Mesopotamia. On a side note, we will be discussing ideas and concepts about the events and tragedy of 9/11.
8 US History is starting my watching a documentary on life in the Americas prior to Columbus and the introduction of the Americas to the Eastern World. We will be looking at the impact that both the New and Old World had upon one another, as well as spending time recognizing some of the different indigenous cultural regions of North America. On a side note, we will be discussing ideas and concepts about the events and tragedy of 9/11.
