7 Science - The class has been using punnet squares to solve genetic probability and heredity problems. They have looked at how genotypes create phenotypes, and the difference between characteristic and traits. The seventh graders have also been practicing determining traits through Bikini Bottom Genetics - Crabby Pattys Anyone?
8 Science has had 2 big labs this week - one looking at the rock cycle through the use of starburst as minerals; phasing through sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. The other lab that the group completed used their knowledge of mineral characteristics and tests to correctly identify different minerals. A job well done!
7 Social Studies - Our Canopic Jars were less than perfect, but the students still enjoyed creating and decorating them with hieroglyphics. We have also been able to look at the change in power as the Old Kingdom was left behind and the Middle and New Kingdoms took root as the strongholds of changing Egyptian power. We will be studying the culture's achievements tomorrow, and then will look at how Kush took control of the region.
8 Social Studies - A friendly reminder that 13 Colony Projects are due on November 9th (Wednesday). All students have access to the project write-up and have had 3 days in the computer lab to research and work on their written pieces. As a class, we were also able to learn more about the New England Colonies and learning about the Salem Witch Trials.
Thank you for a wonderful first quarter! I am excited to see what the second half of the semester brings for us all!
