7 Science will be starting to learn about the smallest living unit of life, the cell. We will start off small looking at the many different organelles within the cell, we will be looking at plant and animal cells, and completing are any units with an edible or non-edible model of the cell. The kids will be able to choose and create a cell of their choice – either a plant or animal cell - that shows what they have learned about cells.
8 Science is learning about the many different crystalline structures in the world around us; they are learning about rocks and minerals. We will start off by looking at what characteristics help identify and define one class of rocks from others, the many different tests that one can do with a mineral to determine the type of sample it is, and the many processes that create the wide variety of minerals in the world around us. We will be having a quiz at the end of this unit and a review will be shared with the students via Google classroom and also a paper copy will be given to them to help prepare for their quiz as well.
7 Social Studies Has done an excellent job learning about ancient Egypt. Their games turned out beautiful and they seem to really enjoy learning and sharing what they learned with their peers. From here we go onto ancient India, studying the Hindi faith, the early Indian society, and the many parts of the region’s culture . We will end up having a quiz on ancient India, and a review will be provided to the students through Google classroom as well as a paper copy to help them prepare for their final quiz.
8 Social Studies has begun working on the many important dates and battles of the Revolutionary War. We will be looking at the influence of European powers as both allies and enemies during our war for freedom. The students have begun working on timelines that chronicle the events leading up to the war, and will add to those to help them document and organize the many skirmishes, meetings, and battles that ensued. The students will be able to use their timelines to both study for the quiz and as a resource during their final quiz on the Revolutionary War.
ALSO - our school is collecting socks for Veterans at the VA Hospital - all gently used / clean socks can be brought to school and will be donated through Mrs. Peterson.
