7 Science has wrapped up their mini unit on the elements - we created some awesome FBE Most Wanted Posters to highlight some of the uses and characteristics of elements in the Periodic Table. Next we will be checking out the Human Body and then Progressing into our Medical Detectives component of PLTW this spring! Very Exciting!
8 Science is almost finished studying the characteristics and uses of light and how it is perceived by our brains to help as navigate and create in the world around us. After our quiz on light, we will check out the theory of evolving traits and adaptations over time, and then dive into Medical Detectives for our final quarter of science together.
7 Social Studies is beginning to look into the faith and culture of the Hebrews. We began by looking at the many regions and trials of the Hebrew Faith, learned about the Exodus from Egypt, and the Diaspora (or spit) that took place shortly there after. The kids also had a good time debating whether was really a giant or just a very tall man - we decided he was tall and David was short. This week, we will check out the different Holy Texts and Scriptures, and explore the holidays and Kosher menu - as well as some of the words that have been adopted by modern culture (bagel, anyone?) of the Hebrew culture.
8 Social Studies is knee deep in Lewis and Clark - we have interpreted and studied the famous letter written by Thomas Jefferson to Lewis and Clark, asking them to lead the expedition and writing out his hopes, orders, and assisting countries in a means to clarify the expedition to them. We watched an excellent Film on the Corps of Discovery and learned about the trials and tribulations of the team. We are going to learn more about Thomas Jefferson's presidency but only after we have held another exciting and mind enticing Socratic Circle on the Nations encountered by the Lewis and Clark.
The Geographic Bee was excellent! All competitors did a fine job and made their classes proud. Our Champion was Jonathan in 8th, Lillyan in 7th took second, followed by Rylee in 6th grade. Jonathan will be moving on for the state championship in the weeks ahead. Well Done, Bulldogs!
