6 Science has been working to complete the first challenge for PLTW. We had our final build day last week Thursday and began working on group presentations Friday morning. We will be presenting early on Tuesday morning and then moving on to learn about measurements and types of sketches used to model ideas and concepts.
7 Science has been doing an "ex-cell-ent" job learning about Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. (Ask them about the different cell types and organelles!) We have a due date on Wednesday for our 3-D cell projects. If any need to be refrigerated, please email me so that I can make arrangements. After we complete the project, we will continue to learn about how cells work together to keep organisms healthy.
8 Science is creating islands containing different land forms developed through erosion and deposition. We will then carry on by learning more about the speed and impact that erosion has on the world around us.There is also a delectable food lab in our future that will focus on the different soil horizons and their properties.
7 Social Studies has begun studying early man, including the theory of human evolution. We are currently looking at the hunter gatherer societies and how they eventually began the process of plant and animal domestication to further develop civilizations. Please watch for a
8 Social Studies has carried on the study of America and the World prior to European colonization in North America. We just had our first Socratic Circle on the topic of the Slave Trade system, and will have several more discussions in the future ranging on topics from Lewis and Clark to Jackson's Presidency. While we do not have a test or quiz in the immediate future, there will be a project in the weeks ahead focusing on the lives of the colonists as they began life in the New World.
