6 Science - We are looking at what makes a good scientist - being curious and creative, skeptical and objective along with several other traits. This week we have also identified the differences between the three main branches of science and also looked at how science is different from psuedoscience. They are doing a fantastic job!
7 Science - We have covered key topics such as multicuellular v. uinicellular organisms, key components to the Cell Theory, and will soon begin looking at the multiple smaller functions that go on within a cell. There will be a project - construct a cell - that will be due on September 29, 2016 (Thursday). More information will be sent home with your student.
8 Science - Erosion and Weathering and Deposition, oh my! We are investigating chemical and physical weathering and how it creates the landforms in the world around us. In the weeks ahead, the class will be creating (and devouring) edible soil samples and digging into soil horizons.
7 Social Studies - We are finding our groove, and setting the stage for World History by checking out some of the first hominids. As cultures begin to evolve, we will look at how land and resources impact these early people - starting off with Stone Age cultures and Mesopotamia.
8 Social Studies - We are studying the Western Hemisphere and its people prior to Columbus - especially looking at the different Native Nations that once inhabited North America. As a precursor to the landing of Europeans, we will also look at other developments in the Old World to understand what birthed the notion of sailing West instead of East.
Awesome Week, Middle School! Good Luck at the Softballl Tournament, Bulldogs!
A friendly reminder that next week Tuesday (September 20) will be the Middle School Parents Night held in the Library at 6pm. Students new to our middle school are welcomed to attend to have any questions answered, talk with the teachers, and find out more about the year ahead. Hope to see you there!
