7 Science just wrapped up their study of cell components and cellular organization, no we dive into heredity and cellular & genetic reproduction through mitosis and meiosis. We will be looking at how DNA translates into the traits we see in the mirror, creating some fun loving monsters, and decode mRNA in a classroom scavenger hunt!
8 Science is halfway through our study of rocks and minerals - they all did a wonderful job using the characteristics of different minerals to analyze and identify an assortment of samples. Next, we will be doing the ever fun and popular Rock Cycle lab - we will use starburst to simulate the minerals as they travel through heat, erosion, and pressure to form and reform different classes of rock.
7 Social Studies has been doing an excellent job with their study of ancient China - we are wrapping up our Invention Dimensions early this week and will be hanging them in the classroom afterwards. A lot of cool ideas and images are contained on these - please have them share them with you when they do eventually bring them home! Next up we will be studying the Hebrew culture and Judaism.
8 Social Studies is knee deep in Civics! We are reading through the Constitution, checking out the different branches of government and learning about our rights and responsibilities - I am really impressed with their ability to relate what we are studying with the world around them!
I want to thank all of the families who have been donating to the Food Drive - it goes on until December 20th and we have raised a nice contribution - if you were thinking of perusing the pantry or cleaning the cabinets out, please feel free to donate anything that could be of help or use to those in need. We are also collecting an assortment of items to send over seas to a former student now serving with the armed forces in Afghanistan. There is more information in the Parent newsletter if you and your family are interested in helping out with either. Again, a heartfelt thank you to all who helped or are helping!
