7 Science has been busy discovering different concepts relating to the many elements found in the world around us. They are working on completing their research and sharing information about their chosen element later this coming week. At the end of the unit, we will end up playing some periodic table bingo!
8 Science is doing a nice job learning about relative dating - a simple way of determining age of rock layers based on what is known of surrounding rock layers and fossils. This week we will be learning about absolute dating to determine ages of rock and mineral samples by determining half lives of different isotopes for radioactive elements. There will be lots of math, and lots of rocks!
7 Social Studies has been busy designing and creating some wonderful Ancient Egyptian board games based on the concepts and ideas relating to this beautiful culture of so many centuries ago. We will be playing our board games on Friday to wrap up the unit and share our new found knowledge with one another.
8 Social Studies is learning about the many atrocities present at the dawn of the revolution of the colonists against Great Britain. We will be looking at the Intolerable Acts and the many taxes forced upon the colonists, the Boston Massacre and Tea Party, and will hopefully be able to take on the roles of colonists and parliament in a simulation. It should make for a lot of great discussions and connections.
