7 Science has a solid understanding of mitosis and meiosis, and has looked at how different organisms reproduce and pass genes onto their offspring. Next up is looking at how those genes are shown and possibilities of traits in different characteristics. Go, Punnet Squares!!!
8 Science is rocking the rock cycle! While most may take minerals for "granite", we "shale" look at magma, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks more in depth. Overall, it's an "uplifting" lesson to study. We will than be studying tectonic plates - which are a "gneiss" way to wrap up our study of the earth and its layers and minerals.
7 Social Studies is working on their Canopic Jars while studying the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt. Will start off next week by "wrapping up" with old and studying the Middle and New kingdoms and looking at what became of Egypt as it progressed onward in time. There will be a quiz at the end of the chapter, but will not be during this last week of quarter one.
8 Social Studies has begun the study of the 13 colonies and their origins and cultural trends. They have each chosen a project that incorporates written research elements as well as a visual element. There will be 2 days in the computer lab to work on these projects, but the majority of the work will be done outside of class in lieu of normal, take-home daily work. These will be due on November 9.
On a side note, through DonorsChoose.org, we have had a major middle school science project funded! Our middle school students will be receiving 12 new and pristine microscopes! I am very excited to put them into use! - Ms. Unrath
Also, any extra credit for Science or Social Studies is due BY November 4, 2016. Thank You!
