7 Science is wrapping up their study of cells. We now turn our focus onto genetics and heredity - starting with meiosis and mitosis. There will be coloring and lots of interesting work in the days ahead - including the ever intriguing Sponge Bob Genetics. We will have a few smaller quizzes when looking at the complexity of processes involved in cell division, and a larger one at the end of the unit focusing on heredity.
8 Science has been tackling the ever complex world of figuring out how old a fossil is - through relative and absolute dating, using geologic columns and radioactive elements, and through creating some of their own problems to better understand how scientists have to think about how to figure out the age of fossils and rocks. We will be wrapping up our study with an in-class i Movie mini-project focusing on the different eras and what was known about each, as well as plate tectonics and continental drift.
7 Social Studies has had a fun time working its way through Mesopotamia - ask them to sing a few lyrics from the Mesopotamia video we watch in class. This week we will be covering the achievements of the Sumerians and reflecting on how they impacted our modern world through their ideas and effort so long ago. We will also be making some Cuneiform Tablets this week. Have your student show you what it says!
8 Social Studies is beginning to wrap up its overall study of the colonies in America, and were given an option to demonstrate their understanding and what they have learned about colonial times. They can either do a Project on a colony, including writing and collage work, or take the chapter test with review given a week in advance. They were to have chosen their assessment by Friday, October 6th so that I could prepare materials for them. I am excited to see what they bring forth. I have shared examples of the project with them prior to giving them the option, and both the Chapter Review and Project information is available for them to access at anytime on Showbie. The due date for the project is Monday October 16, at which time those who chose to a Chapter Assessment will have their test.
