7 Science turned in some wonderful cell models - and then ate them (well, some of them)! We had a vast array of both plant and animal cells, both edible and non-edible, that really wowed their peers in terms of creativity and design. We will continue our study of the cell and its importance by focusing on the activities of cells and how they divide (meiosis, mitosis and fission) in the days ahead.
8 Science has been rocking and rolling through their study of the earth and its land forms. We will have a quiz on land forms, erosion and weathering, and the creation and types of soil on Tuesday, after a review day on Monday. Please note - study guides were sent via email to th students last week Tuesday. After that we will start identifying different rocks through their characteristics and study the rock cycle.
7 Social Studies will start off next week with a day of review followed by their quiz on early human migration and agriculture. Study Guides were shared via email last Tuesday to help give them time to prepare. After the quiz we will begin looking at early river civilizations and discover some of the earliest known settlements in the world.
8 Social Studies just learned abut the Southern colonies and those of New England. One quote that I will always remember is from Gus - " So, if one of the up-risers died during the rebellion led by Nathaniel Bacon, would his gravestone read : Death by Bacon?"... From there we learned about the Salem Witch Trials and the will continue on towards learning about some of the Middle Colonies. We will be creating a school day based project of a map of the original 13 colonies next week, with a test on the early settlers in the following week. I will be sure to send out a review to help them in their studies.
