7 Science is creating monsters with certain traits, creating a genotype for that trait, and working backwards to discover what their monster's parents may have looked like. From here, we will look at what happens for DNA to be read and decoded by the cells, and what translating DNA looks like on the cellular level. Cool beans! We will have a scavenger hunt this coming week - and our 7th grade friends should start reviewing concepts of meiosis and mitosis for an upcoming unit test - we are on lesson 5 of 7! There will be a Review posted in Showbie to help them study in the days ahead.
8 Science is looking at plate tectonics and the motions of earth's crust. We had a delicious lab that looked at convergent, divergent and transform faults, and we will be looking at the technology that goes into predicting earthquakes and stabilizing buildings during a tremor. From here we will start looking at other types of waves - light and sound - in the world around us.
7 Social Studies is "wrapping" up their study of the ancient Egyptians - we had our board games due on Friday and there were some fantastic ideas to help with reviewing everything that we learned about the Egyptians! From here, we learn about Ancient India and Ancient China, their beliefs and culture, and how their early civilizations were established.
8 Social Studies finished their study of the Revolutionary War, focusing on the final Battle of Yorktown and the Treaty of Paris. Now that the United States has officially separated from England, George Washington and his predecessors will have to determine the best way to govern and create a government worthy of the revolution that so many fought and died for. We will also be studying the government as it stands today, and will be learning about the Preamble, the Bill of Rights, and the different Amendments and Laws that make up our country.
