6 Science has been working on the Earth, Sun and Moon system. We will have a quiz on Wednesday and a review has been posted for them in Showbie. I will also make a paper copy for them to study from. This week is FORWARD testing, so I did choose a day without any tests so that the group is not overwhelmed one way or another.
7 Science is beginning PLTW after an awesome frog dissection - we reflected in the anatomy, the adaptions of the frog to survive its habitat, and also how gross and cool the dissection was. The next move for us is going to be Medical Detectives with PLTW. We are starting it by looking at different careers in the Biomedical field.
8 Science has been looking into weather patterns, mapping in relation to geography, precipitation, and air pressure, and is currently working on some PSAs about severe weather. After this final Unit, we will get into the PLTW spirit with Medical Detectives as well.
7 Social Studies will begin studying the culture and faith of Islam. We will look at the Quran, the 5 main ideas or Pillars of the Islam faith and also the history of the religion over the years. We will have a short quiz on this in the weeks ahead, but as we are only beginning the chapter, it will not be in the next week.
8 Social Studies has begun their study of the Southern culture and economy prior to the Civil War. We have been looking at the impact that the cotton gin has had on the slave system that was used in the south, the different roles of religion in a southerner's way of life, and also the lives of those devastated by the corrupt institution of slavery. We will be having a test late this week/ early next week about the South, which will be scheduled for a non-Forward exam day.
Track and Field practice will ONLY be held on Thursday of the week of April 16th, as we have no practice on Tuesday, April 17th.
Astronomy night will take place the last week of April, from 7:45-8:45. I will be watching the skies and weather reports for the week and provide information at a closer time to the week.
