7 Science has begun looking into matter and energy, including happiness we determine the nature and characteristics of matter, such as volume, density, chemical and physical properties and changes. We will look into the law of conservation of mass with a reaction inside a balloon, and eventually look at the many elements in the world around me us.
8 Science is starting off the year by studying the diversity of life in our world. We will be looking into the theory of evolution and the concepts that led to the idea of inheritance of traits and change over time. We will look at Charles Darwin and how we use fossils and evidence from the past to learn about both the plants and animals that lived long ago.
7 Social Studies is beginning the year learning about some world history basics - what an artifact or fossil can tell us, the impact that history has had on us, and also how civilizations rose and fell based on changing environmental and societal demands and pressures. Soon, we look at Mesopotamia, one of the earliest known civilizations, and learn about the technology and people that were first established in the Fertile Crescent.
8 Social Studies is beginning the year looking at the western world prior to the Golden Age of Exploration. We will study the cultures of the indigenous peoples of the continent of North America, and look at how the Colombian Exchange impacted the populations of the native groups through the introduction of different plants, animals, peoples and diseases from Europe. The class will also look at the multitude of technologies and organically brought back from the New World to the people and lands of England and other European countries.
