6th Science will beginning their journey into Project Lead the Way this coming week. We will begin with a design challenge that will have the students building orthosis for children with cerebral palsy to help them walk and creating the physical model out of recycled materials.
7th Science is going to start its study of the Periodic Table of the Elements and will be making a poster about an element of their choosing. After this we will begin to study the different cells and replication through mitosis and meiosis.
8th Science is slowly starting to look at the changing world around us - through erosion, weathering, tectonic plate shift, and volcanic activity. We are going to be focusing on this area of study for the duration of the quarter and on into next quarter.
7th Social Studies is beginning the study of the ancient Egyptians. From the Delta to the cataracts, we will study the culture, history and geography that their kingdom covered and look deep into the impact that this culture had on history and the surrounding lands.
8th Social Studies will be studying the early inhabitants from Europe that settled and created the 13 colonies. We look at the different resources available to them, their reasons for leaving and the freedoms that dew them over the Atlantic to the "New World".

Friday, October 19th several of the 6th grade students will be attending Science Immersion Day at UW-Whitewater for a day filled with scientific demos, hands-on learning, and some fun labs!
